Thanks Neil.

I agree, it can be easy to get bogged down in the details of a given style. My goal is to experience other design styles as well. I don't want to be tied down by the confines of a given style. I do want to try to understand how or what makes a given design work. That might be a lofty or impossible goal, but I have to start somewhere :). And for a "part-time" woodworker, this may be a long process.

Also, I truly enjoy your web site and podcasts. You have exposed me to designers I have never heard of. I really enjoy the time you take to talk about the design. Not many people do.

Rest assured that it isn't my goal to be tied down to a given design, but use what I experience as inspiration for new forms.

Hey InQ Woodworker.........pretty interesting post. Greene and Greene is good and all, and your classes will be great. If I could be so forward, think of design or finding a style, as finding a different "form", a different shape. I see your jigs and shop, you've got the talent to blast-off on your own. The comradery of your Greene and Greene classes may kick start a thought in a whole new direction.

What I notice is most guys get caught up in a style and try to master that style and get booged down with "skill". Search for idea but get outside the box to find your style.
